30 Minutes with Workroom Tech / Episode 107 - Workroom Maintenance Checklist

On this episode, Ceil DiGuglielmo and Susan Woodcock share basic workroom maintenance to help keep your equipment and tools is good working order.

Sewing machines

___Remove bobbin, base plate and feed dogs and replace broken parts

Download and print how-to:

___Clean with small brushes and mini vacuum attachments. Ceil recommends mini-silicone brushes

___Remove tension discs and clean

Download and print how-to:

___Check oil levels and add oil as needed based on your machine manual recommendations depending on if your machine has an oil resevoir or oil pan

___Check cords and belts for wear

___Check knee lift and pedal for adjustment and wear

Scissors

___Check for nicks and wear*

___Lubricate and clean Woff Industries Scissor Lubricant

*A profession sharpener will do micro-adjustments and cleaning in addition to sharpening.

 

Steam iron

___Flush out water tank

___Heat the iron and clean base plate with EZ-Off or Faultless Hot Iron Cleaner

___Check cords for wear

 

Boiler iron

___Drain tank and flush with clean water before refilling

___Remove the shoe if you have one and clean with a brush and warm, diluted soapy water (like Dawn dishwashing liquid)

___Clean base plate with a Magic Eraser or heat the iron and use one of the cleaners above.

___Check electric and steam cords.

___Check tracks, carabiners or chains to make sure they are not worn

Air compressors

___Open petcock on bottom of tank to drain water that has accumulated.

___Check valves, cords, connectors and air hoses to make sure they are not worn.

___Refer to manufacturers maintenance recommendations

 

Staple guns

___Check for loose, damaged or worn parts.  

___Add lubrication based on manufacturers recommendation.

___Make sure the safety is operational on the trigger.

 

General

___Test batteries in smoke and carbon dioxide detectors

___Check and update fire extinguisher

___Check all electric cords for wear
