Take Your Workroom Beyond Fabrication — Add Installation to Your Service Offering

Instructor: Robin Matthews

Friday, April 16 – Saturday, April 17, 2027

9:00 am – 5:00 pm, with a 1-hour lunch on your own

Class size: Limited to 8 students (minimum 4)

Prerequisites: Intro to Window Treatments or equivalent hands-on workroom experience.

Turn a New Skill Into a New Revenue Stream

You already know how to build beautiful window treatments. But what happens after they leave your workroom? For many fabricators, installation is outsourced — meaning lost revenue, less control over the finished product, and a missed opportunity to deepen client relationships.

This two-day, hands-on class with veteran workroom professional Robin Matthews gives you the confidence and practical know-how to bring installation in-house. You'll leave with a repeatable process you can implement immediately — expanding what you offer clients and capturing revenue that's currently walking out your door with someone else's install crew.

Robin draws on decades in the workroom and on the ladder to teach not just the "how," but the judgment calls that only come from experience: reading a wall, choosing the right hardware, and troubleshooting on-site when the job doesn't go as planned.

What You'll Learn

  • How to measure and plan bracket placement based on the hardware
  • A working review of drapery hardware and shade lift systems
  • Spotting hidden perils — water pipes, metal studs, and concrete behind the sheetrock
  • Outfitting a professional installer's toolbox
  • Ladder use and on-the-job safety practices
  • Anchors and how they work, with hands-on practice
  • Using a stud finder and awl to locate wood framing
  • Pro tips for leveling, adjusting, and troubleshooting once you're on-site
  • Proper dressing of window treatments after installation
  • Best practices for pricing, scheduling, and managing client expectations around installation services

What to Bring

Class work is conducted primarily on industrial equipment provided in the classroom. This is an active class, so please be sure to wear comfortable clothes. In a workroom environment, thick-soled shoes are a must have: no open-toed or thin-soled shoes, such as flats and sandals.

Who Should Take This Class

This class is built for workroom professionals ready to grow. If you've completed Intro to Window Treatments (or can demonstrate equivalent experience), you have the foundation needed to make the most of this training — and to start offering installation services with confidence right away.

Seats are limited to 8 students to ensure hands-on instruction time with Robin. Reserve your spot today.
