Parsons Chair Slipcovers

Thursday, August 1 - Saturday, August 3, 2024 at Workroom Tech in Tryon, NC

9:00 am - 5:00 pm with 1 hour lunch on your own.

Slipcovers bring warmth and style to any room and are a practical solution for busy families. In this class, students will participate in a thorough introduction of slipcover design and fabrication, and master the basic fitting and sewing techniques of pattern placement, pin-fitting, and stitching. 

 

Students will create form-fitting slipcovers with or without welt, and their choice of skirt style, and leave with the confidence and skills to offer them to clients.

 

Students can bring their own armless Parsons style chair, or one will be provided.  They will go home with a completed slipcover and several small samples of different slipcover closures and skirt style options. 

 

Topics include:

 

  • fabric suitability
  • yardage calculation
  • fabric cuts and placement
  • reverse-pin technique
  • mastering corners, edges and tuck-in areas
  • armless chair slipcover styles
  • welt cord, or no-welt cord options
  • supply resources
  • zipper or button closures
  • design details

 

Class size is limited to 3 students. Each student will have a dedicated 5' x 10' worktable, industrial straight stitch machine and industrial walking foot machine with assorted machine feet and sewing kit. An industrial serger is share by all students.

 

Students bring face fabrics. The amount needed depends on the style of chair and fabric choice.  Your instructor will help you determine how much to bring before class.
