Build and Upholstery a Round Ottoman with Jonathan Bennett

Time: 9:00 am - 5:00 pm with 1 hour lunch break

You will learn how to design, construct and upholster a 18” x 18” round ottoman
- Wood frame components will be precut to size and assembled by students during class
- Frame will be webbed and padded
- Cover will be cut/sewn
- Cover will be upholstered to base
Class size is limited to 4 students. Students will have use of all upholstery and sewing supplies, as well as tools and equipment needed to build, sew and upholster.
What you need to bring:
2-3 yards of fabric that is appropriate for railroading and 1 yard of fabric for making contrast welt cord, if desired. A woven or tweed fabric that does not need to be pattern matched is preferred.
What you will learn:
- Selecting fabric
- Figuring yardage and materials
- Choosing padding and foam
- Webbing a frame and cutting foam
- Cutting and sewing smooth, round shapes
- Making and applying welt cord to a round shape
- Upholstering a cover to a wood base
This is a beginning level professional course. You will be learning in a real workroom using an industrial walking foot machine, pneumatic staple gun and professional tools and supplies. Students are required to have basic sewing skills.
