Roman Shades: Level I
Friday, December 4 - Saturday, December 5, 2026 at Workroom Tech in Richmond, VA.
9:00 am - 5:00 pm with 1 hour lunch on your own.

Class registration includes $795 education investment, plus $170 per materials kit (mandatory).
In this class, you will learn the fundamentals of sewing custom, roman shades. From measuring and figuring yardage to sewing methods and lift systems, there is a lot to learn!
Two shades will be completed in class:
- Basic, lined Roman shade with the cordless Centurion Widget lift system
- Blackout, interlined roman shade with ribs using the Forest RBS clutch headrail with bead chain loop and tensioner.
Class size is limited. Each student with have their own worktable, industrial straight stitch machine and tools. Students bring face fabric. All other materials and supplies are included (including lift systems).

- shade supplies and resources
- corded window covering standards and safety
- best practices for selling corded window coverings
- hemming and finishing techniques
- shade lift systems
- professional tips
Students must have completed Introduction to Sewing Soft Furnishings or have basic sewing experience and practical knowledge.
This class has a minimum class size of 4 students. Minimum class size must be met one month prior to class start date. In the event the minimum class size is not met, we will send an announcement and determine refunds/credits.

*Shade fabrication methods at Workroom Tech have been independently tested by Bureau Veritas, and approved to meet current industry standards for cord safety as set in ANSI/WCMA A100.1-2022 – American National Standard for Safety of Window Covering Products.
