In this 3-week course you will complete a pair of lined, pleated arched draperies.  Class sample will be 1 width each side (2 widths of material) by 36 inches long with French pleats and hand-sewn hems.  You will provide your own face fabric and lining – everything else is included in the project kit. 


Cilass includes:

  • Kit with wide buckram, drapery weights, pattern paper, hook and loop tape and welt cord. You provide the face fabric and lining.
  • Three 1-hour online interactive lessons with instructor Susan Woodcock, presented live and recorded to review later (with 3 months online access after class is completed).
  • Written how-to instructions 


3-Week Course Outline

WT Online: Arched, Pleated Draperies

Creating draperies for shaped top windows can be challenging and requires a different approach, but Susan Woodcock will guide you through the design and pattern making process, making it easy-to-understand. Once you master the techniques, you can use what you learn to create shaped top draperies, valances and shades with confidence.


This three week online course includes class supply kit and three, one hour live class sessions.  Class recordings will be available for you to reference during the class, and three months after the class has concluded.


Session One, Thursday, January 28, 2021

  • Measuring and planning installation
  • Making a template
  • Figuring yardage
  • Planning pleats and spaces
  • Drafting a paper pattern


Session Two: February 4, 2021

  • Cutting face fabric and lining
  • Hemming
  • Applying the facing
  • Sewing hook and loop tape
  • Cutting and applying buckram
  • Making welt cord


Session Three: February 11, 2021

  • Sewing the arched drapery heading with welt cord
  • Adding side hems
  • Sewing and tacking pleats
  • Hardware and installation ideas
  • Adapting the pattern for other arched shapes and styles


Class kit includes pattern paper, wide width buckram, drapery weights, hook and loop tape and welt cord.


What you will need:

Face fabric and drapery lining (yardage amounts will be sent when you register), sewing machine, scissors, pins, iron, tape measure & ruler or yardstick, needles and thread.

*This is an intermediate level course.  It is recommended that you have completed "Custom Draperies: Level I" or "WT Online: Low Bulk Pleated Draperies" or have some practical drapery making experience and sewing knowledge.
