WT Online: Applying Fabric Banding on Draperies

Instructor: Susan Woodcock

Live, online class sessions held on Thursday, May 2, 2024, and Thursday, May 9, 2024, at 12:00 pm EST

Session one will be 90 minutes and session two will be 60 minutes long.

Cost: $75.00

Banding is very popular on draperies. You will often see banding inset from the front (leading) edge, or on the front and bottom edges. Applying banding on the edges of draperies (and not inset) is much more challenging because it wraps from the front to the back.

What do you do about the lining?
How do you join the banding at the corners?
Do you add double hems or not?

This class will answer those questions and more!

Susan will share step-by-step videos, photos and instructions with her methods for perfect banding with straight and mitered corners, neat side and bottom hems, and free-hanging linings.

In this class you will complete a lined drapery sample with 1/2 inch bias or straight cut banding on the side and bottom edges; a lined drapery sample with 2 1/2 inch banding with a straight seam join at the corner; and a lined and interlined (interlining optional) with 2 1/2 inch banding joined with a mitered corner.  Included in this class are methods for fabricating stationary drapery panels, finishing hems and calculating and sewing pleats.

Class includes:

Two online interactive lessons with instructor Susan Woodcock, presented live and recorded to review later (with 3 months online access after class is completed).

Written how-to instructions.

Support from the instructor between class sessions.

  • "Susans' low- bulk drapery class was amazing! I learned so much including pattern matching, stitches, measuring, how to figure out fabric yardage, number of folds, spacing, all the various pleating techniques including 2-3 fold french pleat, Euro pleat and more! Susan provided many resources for products and she shared her personal tidbits along the way. I had been listening to Workroom Tech podcast for some time, but so glad to have taken my first course and look forward to the next and the next..."

"The class was amazing. I took this and the Roman blinds class. Susan was amazing and taught each in a very logical and easy to understand way. Susan’s enthusiasm was infectious. I will take whatever additional classes they offer".
    ~Kate P.

I learned so much and feel confident to actually make a full set for myself and hopefully others too. They looked more intimidating than they were but it certainly helps to have the right tools and products! I love, love, love the look of a simple pleated drape and love to learn something new!
